Piping material for shipyards and marine outfitters – flanges to shipbuilding standards, seawater-resistant materials and survey by classification societies.
Shipbuilding has its own flange standards. They differ in design and connecting dimensions from the shore standards – order EN 1092-1 here and you receive parts that will not fit on board.
| Standard | Design | Application |
|---|---|---|
| DIN 86029 | Slip-over flange | Slipped over the pipe and welded – the standard on board |
| DIN 86030 | Slip-over flange | Complementary series to DIN 86029 |
| DIN 86041 | Welding flange | Butt welded, for higher loading |
| EN 1092-1 | Weld-neck, blind, loose flange | Where shore standards are specified, e.g. engine rooms |
| ASME B16.5 | WN / SO / BL / LJ | With American specification |
Collars, loose flanges and fittings are supplied to match. Designs and dimensions in detail under flange types and in the flange dimension tables.
Seawater is a harsh medium for standard stainless steels. Chlorides attack the passive layer and cause pitting and crevice corrosion – precisely where it cannot be seen.
| Material | Standard | Typical use on board |
|---|---|---|
| CuNi 90/10 (2.0872) | EN 12449, DIN 86019 | Seawater cooling, ballast, fire main |
| 1.4404 (316L) | EN 10216-5 | Fresh water, hydraulics, general process lines |
| 1.4462 (duplex) | EN 10216-5 | Chloride-bearing media, higher strength at thinner wall |
| 1.4410 (super duplex) | EN 10216-5 | Offshore, desalination, aggressive seawater systems |
| 1.4547 (254 SMO) | EN 10216-5 | Superaustenitic for the highest chloride loading |
| P235GH, S235JR | EN 10216-2, EN 10025-2 | Steam, fuel, lines without seawater contact |
Which material is right depends on medium, temperature, flow velocity and chloride content. The full overview is under materials.
In shipbuilding a 3.1 certificate is often not enough. What is regularly required is the inspection certificate 3.2 to EN 10204 – with attendance and countersignature by a surveyor of the classification society.
On request we supply with survey by DNV, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, RINA, ABS or ClassNK. Important: the survey must be arranged before manufacture – a certificate with an attending surveyor cannot be created retrospectively.
What the individual certificate types mean is explained in inspection certificate 3.1 or 2.2.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Cutting | Sawn fixed lengths and fitting pieces from 0.1 to 12 m, sawn and bevelled |
| Machining | Drilling, facing, pipe bending with special radii, threading to EN 10226 |
| Surface | Blasting SA 2.5, primer and top coat, galvanising to EN ISO 1461 |
| Special parts | Flanges to drawing and works standard, collars with recess – from a single piece |
| Marking | Material, batch and mill per item, assigned to the order |
| Order picking | In installation sequence, packed by section or by system |
Manufacture to drawing is under special parts and custom manufacturing, the complete pipe range under pipes and piping systems.
Grade, standard, size, pressure rating and quantity are enough – on request with survey by the classification society. Your quote usually the same day.
