What is a pipe spool?

A pipe spool is a prefabricated section of a pipeline in which pipe, bends, fittings and flanges are welded into one transportable assembly. It is made to an isometric or drawing, tested and delivered to site as a finished unit, where it only has to be lifted into place and bolted up.

Batch and heat number of every item remain traceable through the documentation.

Frequently asked questions about Pipe spools

What is the difference between a pipe spool and a pipeline?

The pipeline is the finished system in the plant. The pipe spool is a single prefabricated section of it – a transportable assembly of pipe, bends and flanges that is welded and tested in the shop and only erected on site.

What documents do you need for a quotation?

An isometric or drawing with dimensions, the material grade, the pressure rating and which certificate to EN 10204 is required. If no isometric exists, a dimensioned sketch is enough for a first calculation.

Why prefabricate instead of welding on site?

In the shop you can weld, test and document under controlled conditions. That reduces the share of field welds, shortens erection time and simplifies quality assurance – especially for creep-resistant materials with preheating and post-weld heat treatment requirements.

Are the welds tested?

Yes. Visual inspection is always included. Beyond that we agree the non-destructive testing to your specification – penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonic or radiographic – and the pressure test with report.

Which materials do you supply pipe spools in?

Unalloyed boiler steel such as P235GH, creep-resistant grades such as 16Mo3, 13CrMo4-5, 10CrMo9-10 and P91, austenitic stainless such as 1.4404 and 1.4571, duplex 1.4462 and CuNi 90/10 for seawater.
