In plant engineering an hour on site costs a multiple of an hour in the shop. That is why we supply prefabricated – pipe spools to isometric, tested and documented, so that on site things only need connecting.
Why prefabrication saves the date in plant engineering
Work goes slower on site than in the shop: cramped conditions, welding in fixed positions, weather, scaffolding, waiting between trades. Every weld laid in the shop beforehand is therefore doubly won against a site weld – in time and in quality, because it is made under controlled conditions and is easier to test. The effort shifts into planning: isometric, spool split and transport dimensions have to be settled early.

Typical tasks
Splitting spools with judgement
Spools too large will not pass the erection opening, too small ones create needless site welds. We look at transport route and access with you before splitting.
Isometric instead of sketch
The more precise the isometric, the less rework. Where dimensions or tolerances are missing we ask beforehand – that is cheaper than a spool that does not fit.
Revamp in existing plant
In a rebuild the as-built records are rarely accurate. Site measurement and a check against the isometric prevent a finished spool from not meeting the existing line.
Documentation from the start
Certificates, weld maps and inspection records grow with the work. Traceability cannot be created afterwards.
Plant engineering – frequently asked questions
How large may a pipe spool be?
Technically only handling limits it; in practice transport and access do. Lengths to about 12 m are usual; crane route, door or roof opening and whether the plant is running are what decide. These limits belong before the spool split.
What is the difference between EN 13480 and EN 12952?
EN 13480 covers industrial piping, EN 12952 water-tube boilers. In one plant both can apply side by side – the boiler to EN 12952, the connecting pipework to EN 13480. The interface should be stated in the order.
Can you work from an isometric without a fabrication drawing?
Yes, in plant engineering that is the normal case. The spool can be derived from an isometric with dimensions, sizes, material and a bill of material. Whatever is missing we clarify in writing beforehand rather than interpret.
Is every weld tested?
No, the scope follows fluid group, pressure rating and your specification. A percentage of welds in radiography or ultrasonics is usual, plus visual inspection of all welds. We fix the scope before work starts.
What do you need for a quotation?
Isometric or piping drawing, sizes and wall thicknesses, material grade, flange standard and pressure rating, number of spools, scope of testing, date and the required certificate to EN 10204.
