What does titanium stabilisation do in 1.4571?
Titanium binds the carbon and prevents intergranular corrosion – even at higher temperatures and after welding without heat treatment.
When to use 1.4571 instead of 1.4404?
At service temperatures above roughly 350–400 °C, or when the drawing or code specifies 1.4571. 1.4404 needs no post-weld heat treatment – with C ≤ 0.03 % it stays resistant to intergranular corrosion in the as-welded condition. 1.4404 in turn polishes better and is the more common choice in ASME projects.
