Stainless steel tubes EN 10216-5

EN 10216-5 is the European standard for seamless stainless steel tubes for pressure purposes – austenitic grades such as 1.4301, 1.4404 and 1.4571 and austenitic-ferritic duplex steels such as 1.4462 and 1.4410. ROHRLINE supplies stainless steel tubes to EN 10216-5 in all common grades with EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificates – from Grafenwörth (Lower Austria) to Austria, Germany and across the EU.

Scope and delivery condition

The standard covers seamless tubes with outside diameters from 10.2 to 2,032 mm (duplex up to 508 mm) and specifies composition, mechanical properties at room and elevated temperature, corrosion testing, tests and marking.

  • Delivery condition +AT (solution annealed and quenched) for all grades
  • Austenitics 1.4301, 1.4307, 1.4541, 1.4404, 1.4435, 1.4571, 1.4539, 1.4547; duplex 1.4462, super duplex 1.4410
  • Welded tubes of the same grades: EN 10217-7
Testing

Test categories TC1 and TC2

Like EN 10216-2, EN 10216-5 defines two test categories; the purchaser specifies them. For pressure equipment under 2014/68/EU, TC2 is usually required.

FAQ

Stainless steel tubes EN 10216-5 – frequently asked questions

Which grades does EN 10216-5 cover?

EN 10216-5 covers austenitic stainless steels (including 1.4301, 1.4307, 1.4541, 1.4404, 1.4435, 1.4571, 1.4539, 1.4547), austenitic-ferritic duplex steels (1.4462, 1.4410, 1.4362) and some heat-resisting austenitics. ROHRLINE supplies the ten most common grades with datasheet and 3.1 certificate.

1.4404 or 1.4571 to EN 10216-5 – what is the difference?

Both are molybdenum-alloyed austenitics with the same corrosion resistance. 1.4404 is low-carbon (C ≤ 0.03 %) and therefore weldable without heat treatment; 1.4571 is titanium-stabilised and slightly stronger in continuous service up to 400 °C. In Europe 1.4571 is traditionally preferred in plant construction, 1.4404 in pharma and food applications.

Do stainless tubes to EN 10216-5 need a 3.1 certificate?

For pressure equipment under 2014/68/EU and for any heat-based traceability, yes: the EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificate confirms analysis and mechanical values of the delivered heat. ROHRLINE supplies EN 10216-5 stainless tubes with 3.1 as standard and with 3.2 by a notified body on request.
