Inspection certificate 3.1 or 2.2? Test certificates to EN 10204

For safety-relevant pipelines the goods alone are not enough – the appropriate certification is required. EN 10204 distinguishes several types of test certificate.

The four types at a glance

• 2.1 – declaration of compliance: confirmation of conformity with the order, without test results.
• 2.2 – test report: conformity plus results from non-specific testing.
• 3.1 – inspection certificate: batch-specific test results, confirmed by an inspection department independent of the manufacturing department.
• 3.2 – inspection certificate, additionally confirmed by an external or purchaser-appointed body.

Which certificate when?

For many standard applications a 2.2 is sufficient. As soon as pressure, temperature or safety play a role – for example in plant, pressure-vessel and power plant construction – the 3.1 is the standard. It ensures complete traceability from the component back to the melt.
