Boiler tubes EN 10216-2

EN 10216-2 is the European standard for seamless steel tubes for pressure purposes made of non-alloy and alloy steels with specified elevated-temperature properties – the boiler tube standard for steam generators, superheaters, headers and hot steam lines. ROHRLINE supplies boiler tubes to EN 10216-2 in all common grades from P235GH to P91 with EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificates – from Grafenwörth (Lower Austria) to Austria, Germany and across the EU.

Scope and delivery conditions

The standard covers seamless tubes with outside diameters from 10.2 to 2,032 mm and specifies composition, mechanical properties at room and elevated temperature (proof strength Rp0.2/T), tests and marking. The delivery condition is fixed per grade:

  • +N (normalised): P235GH, P265GH, 16Mo3
  • +NT (normalised and tempered): 13CrMo4-5, 10CrMo9-10, 14MoV6-3, X20CrMoV11-1, X10CrMoVNb9-1 (P91)
  • Welded tubes of the same grades: EN 10217-2 (electric welded) and EN 10217-5 (submerged arc welded)
Testing

Test categories TC1 and TC2

EN 10216-2 defines two test categories. The purchaser specifies them; for pressure equipment under 2014/68/EU and boilers to EN 12952, TC2 is usually required.

TestingTest categories TC1 and TC2
TC1cast analysis, tensile test at room temperature, flattening or ring expanding test, leak tightness test, dimensional and visual inspection
TC2additionally impact test, non-destructive testing of each tube for longitudinal imperfections to EN ISO 10893 and extended sampling

FAQ

Boiler tubes EN 10216-2 – frequently asked questions

Which grades does EN 10216-2 cover?

EN 10216-2 covers non-alloy boiler steels (P195GH, P235GH, P265GH), molybdenum steels (16Mo3), chromium-molybdenum steels (13CrMo4-5, 10CrMo9-10, 11CrMo9-10, X11CrMo5, X11CrMo9-1), the vanadium steel 14MoV6-3 and the martensitic grades X20CrMoV11-1 and X10CrMoVNb9-1 (P91). ROHRLINE supplies P235GH to P91 with datasheet and 3.1 certificate.

What is the difference between TC1 and TC2?

TC1 is the basic scope with tensile test, ring test, leak tightness test and dimensional check. TC2 adds the impact test and non-destructive testing of every tube for longitudinal imperfections. For pressure equipment under 2014/68/EU and water-tube boilers to EN 12952, TC2 is usually ordered; ROHRLINE states the test category in the order confirmation.

Can I get EN 10216-2 boiler tubes welded?

Yes, the same grades exist welded to EN 10217-2 (electric resistance or induction welded) and EN 10217-5 (submerged arc welded) with identical material properties. Pressure, temperature and code decide between seamless and welded; ROHRLINE supplies both with EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificates.

Boiler tubes EN 10216-2 enquire?
