Pipe bends to DIN 2605: types, radii and materials
Pipe bends redirect the line without disturbing the flow unnecessarily. DIN 2605 (now absorbed into EN 10253) governs the common types – here are the key selection criteria.
Angle and radius
Bends of 90° and 45° are the most common. The bend radius is specified as a multiple of the nominal diameter: a 3D bend has three times, a 5D bend five times the diameter as its radius. Larger radii mean lower pressure loss and gentler flow – important for abrasive or sensitive media.
Seamless or welded
Seamless bends are the first choice at high pressures and temperatures. Welded bends are more economical and perfectly sufficient for many standard applications. Both are available in standard wall and heavy wall.
Materials
For carbon steel lines, grades such as St 35.8 and P235GH are used, for creep-resistant applications 16Mo3, 13CrMo4-5 or 10CrMo9-10, and stainless steel for corrosion-resistant lines. To match the bend we supply reducers, tees and caps from a single source – all coordinated with one another.
