Choosing gaskets correctly: flat, spiral wound and ring joint
The best flange connection is useless if the gasket does not fit. The choice depends on pressure rating, temperature, medium and sealing face.
Flat gasket
The classic choice for low to medium pressures. Materials range from fibre-reinforced materials to PTFE and graphite. PTFE is chemically very resistant, graphite withstands high temperatures.
Spiral wound gasket
Spirally wound metal strips with a soft filler – very robust under fluctuating pressure and temperature. With an inner and outer ring they can be precisely centred and protected against over-compression. Typical in plant and power plant construction.
Ring joint gasket
Metallic ring gaskets for very high pressures, for example in petrochemicals. They sit in a special groove and seal via metallic contact.
Mind the sealing face
The gasket must match the sealing strip of the flange (e.g. form B1). We supply the matching gasket together with the flange connection and bolting – so the whole connection fits together.
